The Mykleby courtyard in partnership with the Eisenhower PTO is maintained by the Courtyard Committee, and our wonderful volunteers.

Help our school maintain the beautiful Mykleby Courtyard by purchasing sustainably & environmentally friendly grown plants from Glacial Ridge Growers.

The Mykleby Courtyard was founded in the spring of 1997 by Principal Chuck Mykleby, parents Cathy Parry, Sharon O’Brien, and Camille Calderaro, teachers Sue Price, Joel Phelps, and Susan Johnson, Dawn Hanson of Kids and Co., and District Naturalist Larry Wade.

The concept for the revamped courtyard was created by past principal Chuck Mykleby, who saw the potential for a space where students could get hands-on lessons in arts, science, and cultural curricula in the outdoors. The new design incorporated a curving gravel path that leads to different natural habitats, including a vegetable garden, prairie garden, and a butterfly and hummingbird garden. Birdhouses and other small sculptures are found scatted about, and a grassy knoll was installed to allow for outdoor lessons to take place.

For nearly 25 years, this outdoor space has provided students a place to learn about nature without having to travel off the school grounds. It continues to provide a sense of wonder and awe when the seasons change and new animals and plants arrive. Our students are learning about their food and environment by maintaining the courtyard and helping with the planting and cultivating of the gardens
